CHAONS
Digital Chakras , digital artworks created using Apophysis7x software, square digital format. Artist's collection, 2015.
This digital series by the artist aims to move away from and break free from traditional artistic techniques, experimenting with the creation of artwork using computers. Christophe Chaons's Digital Chakras are created using Apophysix 7x, an open-source software developed in the 2000s that generates fractal images through specific programming executed by the artist. Using mathematical formulas, the creator selects parameters to obtain a result that is more or less random, or highly targeted. This series questions the digital presence in today's world, challenging the contemporary vision of art in a universe where technology and artificial intelligence are becoming ubiquitous. A fusion of art and mathematics, the creation of fractals allows humans to play with variables and leave the realm of possibilities open – the result being systematically unique and unpredictable. It was in 2018 that Christophe immersed himself in this digital creation, while confined to bed following a hospital stay. Already interested in digital art since his studies in Fine Arts at the Sorbonne, he discovered this software and began a self-taught approach, which proved to be a cathartic experience. This series offers a neo-retro perspective on digital art, exploring the beginnings of software-based creation in a world governed by Artificial Intelligence. Like kaleidoscopes, the chakras are imagined in geometric forms with a mirror effect, using a system of axial symmetry. Through various shades of color chosen by the artist, the chakras are presented as fragments, petals, rosettes, and spherical swirls. Christophe Chaons aims to imbue this series of geometric works with symbolism, focusing on the ancestral spirituality of the chakras. Their rainbow colors are reflected in each image, creating a luminous effect that evokes the elements. Earth, fire, water, and air are thus symbolized, along with the fifth element, associated with the etheric body of the Creator and the celestial realm. The concept of the seven chakras lends itself easily to the notion of reproducibility in the artist's eyes, allowing for its development into a series.
